About the African American Women in Cinema Film Festival
The African American Women in Cinema Film Festival (AAWICFF) stands as a beacon of empowerment and creativity, celebrated as one of the most esteemed female film events in the nation. Since its inception in 1998, the festival has spotlighted the exceptional achievements of women filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, becoming a crucial platform for showcasing their work. Each year, the AAWICFF offers audiences premieres of groundbreaking films, paired with enriching workshops and thought-provoking keynote panels hosted by renowned industry professionals.
This year’s festival celebrates a significant milestone with its 25th edition, featuring a special screening of To Live and Die and Live, starring Skye P. Marshall. The celebration continues with distinguished honorees, including Allison McGevna, Senior Vice President of iOne Digital, and acclaimed film producer Cheryl Hill, both receiving the 25th AAWICFF Pioneer Award. Renowned producer and writer Felicia Henderson will be honored with the 25th AAWICFF Trailblazer Award for her groundbreaking contributions to the industry.
The 25th Annual AAWIC Film Festival will take place from May 15-17, 2025, at LaGuardia Community College in New York City. As one of the nation’s premier events for female filmmakers, AAWICFF continues to serve as a powerful platform for showcasing ambitious women from across the globe.
In addition to the special screenings, the festival will feature a range of industry-driven events designed to educate and inspire. These include a Screenwriters Workshop, a Film and Television Producing Workshop, and several keynote panels on key topics such as The Politics of Black Women in Film and Financing for Independent Films. These sessions provide invaluable insights for aspiring filmmakers, industry professionals, and anyone passionate about cinema. AAWICFF will be a hybrid event, offering both in-person and online screenings, ensuring global access to the incredible work of the next generation of filmmakers.
