African American Women In Cinema (AAWIC) is excited to announce an encore presentation of the Black American Cinema Virtual Film Festival in honor of the Paralympics, running from August 11 to September 8, 2024.
This festival pays homage to the legendary Josephine Baker, a global icon who broke barriers for African Americans in the entertainment industry, and tribute to Alice Coachman, the first Black woman to win an Olympic gold medal in 1948 for the high jump. The festival features a diverse selection of films and celebrates the achievements as well as the legacies of those who have followed in the footsteps of these trailblazers.
In partnership with African American Weekend and supported by the Honorable Mayor Mohamed Gnabaly of L'Île-Saint-Denis, France, this virtual event is set to be an unforgettable celebration of Black excellence.
The virtual festival will also include bonus features such as an exclusive interview with Sharon-Preston Folta, daughter of the global icon Louis Armstrong, and another exclusive interview with Wendy Hilliard. Wendy Hilliard has long been a major force in women’s, Olympic, and community sports. She was the first Black to represent the United States globally, and she remained on the Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team a record-setting nine times, serving twice as National Team Captain.
